Yo, we have way better technology to use for refs to review plays than those tiny screens that look like my pappaw's cool black and white tiny tv from the early 80's. All they need is a antenna coming off it.

Aren’t the reviews done elsewhere and not on the field?

Reviews are done from the sec offices. The video on the field is for the ref to see exactly what angle they are looking at there.

the ref on the field doesn’t make the review decision.

I thought the same thing recently that that referee was looking into something the size of an iPhone. Figured there would be some sort of “review tent” like there is for players when they get injured.

Who exactly are the guys in Birmingham?

Easier to get a look at the secret JFK files than learn the identity of the Birmingham guys

One of my IT side hustles is working for the company that supports the replay systems.

The SEC Office has a replay command center that is similar to a TV production studio. I believe they have the ability to support 3 games. Each has their own Replay Official in the Birmingham studio.

The ultimate decision is made by the Replay official in the booth at the game. But he is in consultation with Birmingham. LOTS of eyeballs on each review since all 3 guys in the SEC office watch the review as it happens, if the Birmingham guys suggest a ruling and the booth guy disagrees...the booth guy will have to have a lot of explaining

The tech is REALLY COOL!!!

The field monitor is the size of an iPhone Max and like mentioned, it’s just to help the field official visualize the decision

USA Today article on the SEC Replay center

A LSU fan complaining about the refs...and its not even game day.

What are your thoughts on the announcers? I bet they are pulling for A&M.

We identify officials for all sports - why not the replay gurus in command central?
