I guess but if they could assemble and execute a manned mission to Jupiter after the discovery then they could have done it beforehand. To my understanding no particular additional knowledge was gained on the moon
They already knew Jupiter was “out there” and exploration of the solar system doesn’t seem to need any extra motivation

maybe it’s as simple as “if it’s on the moon than humans couldn’t possibly have placed it there”?
