Ricky Watters: Hall of Fame worthy?

He was shown on NFL Network's Top 10 players who should be in the Hall of Fame. He was #6 on the list.
I honestly didn't think much about him, but his stats are pretty solid.
- Played 10 seasons for 3 teams
- 5 Pro Bowls
- 3 TD's in Super Bowl win
- 10,643 career rushing yards (4.1 per carry)
- 78 rushing TD's
- 3 time All-Pro selection
- 4,248 yards receiving
- Only NFL running back in history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season for three different teams
So what do you think? HOF worthy or no?

Not really a statistic that puts you over the top.
I say no the HOF for Ricky.

Not as HOF wothy as Joe Namath
Stats are better than I would have thought, but I don't ever remember being excited to watch a game just because Ricky Watters was playing. Also he went to ND, this should count against him, no?

Yeah. Kramer, Derrick Thomas and Cris Carter were the top 3. I forget the rest.

This doesn't really mean anything...

Is Carter eligible yet?
Yes, he didn't make it this year.
Posted on 8/13/08 at 1:05 pm to Augustus
Yes, 1000 rushing and 400 receiving every year. 91 rushing + receiving TDs, that's 9TDs/year. HOFer imo.
EDIT: This was before everyone was throwing to the RB.

This year was Carter's first for the hall. For some reason, there are voters who just won't put anyone in on the first ballot. He's a lock to go in next season though.

Kramer not in the NFL HOF is the most glaring of all pro HOF's with a 'major' exclusion.
Posted on 8/13/08 at 1:07 pm to Augustus
I wouldn't say not even close, but no not worthy. I think Thomas should be over Kramer.

Back in the day when he played for San Fran, it was pretty impressive. After that, he wasn't the up and comer any more.

The reasoning that the commentators on the show gave for him not being in it were:
1) The current RB's in the HOF all have "defining moments". Watters, in their opinion, didn't have one.
2) The "For Who, For What?" incident.

Not even close?
That's a little off.
Where do Notre Dame and the 49ers rank on your most hated teams list?

Seriously, was anyone really ever scared to face Ricky Waters?
And I for one really liked him as a player...but I would've never even considered him for the HOF. The NFL is pretty loose anyway on its HOF, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
