He needs to make a good decision to add touch to his passes. Everything off his hand is a bullet. That alone takes the underneath and deep routes out of his arsenal. Now the intermediate routes, where you want a strike, he’s been quite good with.
While he does tend to throw the "fastball" on most throws, he has shown touch on the deep ball (see TD to McMath yesterday and first TD to Marshal vs. USC).
Yes, there is plenty of room for improvement. His mechanics aren't great, which will lead to some really bad throws to open WR's (see some of the passes that nose dive to the feet of open receivers). However, he doesn't look completely overwhelmed out there. That, to me, is a great foundation. It's impossible to teach comfort and confidence. You can also see he has some good awareness traits. Not always, of course, but the foundation is there. Getting out of the pocket and being aware of the LOS before making a throw. The game winning TD pass where he unnecessarily left the pocket, but settled back in once he realized the OL had him protected.
He's not perfect. But that's not to be expected for a guy making his 3rd start as a true freshman in a season where spring football was cancelled and on-field work has been restricted. The crazy thing is that after next week (assuming the game is played) he will have more career starts than Brennan. It is also entirely possible that by the end of the season he may have more career pass attempts than Brennan.

Meh, McMath had to adjust to ball. He was wide open and it could’ve been an easier to catch ball.
He’ll improve, he’s only a true freshman.
