While the clinical trials themselves weren’t “rushed”, the development timelines are significantly accelerated vs traditional vaccine development. Operation Warp Speed deserves a lot of credit for this (ithe exception is Pfizer’s vaccine).
The government has taken on the burden of backstopping the manufacturing supply chain for companies, allowing them to secure capacity at risk. The normal process involves companies waiting until trial results to make investments in scale up manufacturing and production of both clinical trial material and commercial supply. This adds years to the development cycle. That’s one of the reason the flu vaccine is ready every year. The manufacturing processes and capacity already exist-the variable is the flu virus.
