not being an a-hole but hampton may want to stick to baseball potentialy

It's weird as hell because hampton was genuinely awesome in the games he filled in for Delpit last year. I came into this year genuinely expecting him to be our next big star at safety, but my GOD he has struggled. He's genuinely afraid to tackle--when he's in a 1-on-1 tackling situation, he legitimately backpedals...Never seen anything like it. Hopefully it's just the yips of some sort--it certainly seems like it's in his head--and he can get it fixed up, because he has the potential to put himself in good spots...it's just finishing the play once he's there that's the issue.

I haven't seen anything to show me that Hampton will be a top prospect in football

In a month of baseball he showed 5 tool traits, speed, hit for power, with arm from outfield maybe below

At this point he would get drafted higher in baseball

We do not have a Centerfield type safety. Delpit could take away the deep ball and that put hampton in a good spot to just play a smaller area/more in the box. Derrick and sage will immediately make our defense better.

He was a thumper last year. I wonder if his play this year has anything to do with his back injury last year in baseball. It might make him a little hesitant to really finish a tackle if he doesn't feel completely healthy.

I think it’s the players not knowing what they are doing making them hesitant and not playing with confidence. We’ve seen a general decline in play from nearly everyone on defense. If it was just him I’d say he just needs to get it together, but then you look at other guys like Stevens, Logan, Clark, Harris, and Farrell with declining play it has to be something more.

Ask yourself from everyone who logged time in last year’s D, who is playing better than last? Not many.
