It'll for sure pull an 18" bar; just would lug easily with the bar buried and pulling against the dogs.
I am inclined to say the 16" is a better suit for it. However, if you find yourself wanting/needing the 18" bar/chain, just remember you can always purchase them and swap it onto the power head in no time.
