re: Harbaugh...this can't be good for recruiting, think he's looking to get back to the NFL?

NFL?
For all the successes he had before, by Year 4 everyone in the entire organization (players, front office, ownership) was over him. He lost that team in record time.

He's already at his tailor-made job where he can do his weird rah-rah thing and it's not working out.

Let's also not forget that in SF he was handed a loaded roster that had no business underachieving to the extent that they did. Any team willing to make him an NFL offer is likely in far worse shape than the 2011 Niners.

Oh and there's also the thing about not being a particularly useful offensive mind. He was fortunate to catch lightning in a bottle for a little while with 2012/13 Kaepernick and Greg Roman. So between mediocre coaching and a history of alienating everyone around him, to be honest I'm not sure what he offers any NFL franchise.

I have nothing against the guy and am tremendously grateful for his service with the red and gold but I don't think he would have a prayer of successfully leading a team through an actual rebuild.

Adam Gase and every other retread was immediately rehired in the NFL. I think he'll find a willing team.

The 49ers fricked up by choosing Trent Baalke/Jim Tomsula over him.

There's really no denying he's had an incredible career for someone on the spectrum.
quote:

Even Harbaugh, who doesn’t like to talk about himself, has a fascinating Jim Harbaugh story to tell.

The lantern-jawed coach was sitting at a table in a conference room at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago on a midsummer afternoon. He leaned forward on the edge of his chair, his eyes wide, as he recalled a moment from his days at Stanford.

As he explained it, he was on his way to the office when he noticed a traffic light wasn’t working; a cop was standing in the middle of a busy intersection, directing cars this way and that way. The female officer displayed such command of the intersection that Harbaugh pulled over to the side of the road, mesmerized.

For half an hour, Harbaugh sat in his car and studied the scene. He was nearly late for practice because he was so enthralled with the skill and the savvy of the traffic cop. “I like to watch people doing their job at the highest level,” he said. “I really do.”

2003-2010:
SF did not have winning season in the 8 years prior to Harbaugh.

2011-2014:
Harbaugh spent 4 years in SF. They had 3 winning seasons, two division titles, a SB appearance, and his worst season was 8-8.
Harbaugh won 70% of his games.

2015-2018:
SF had 4 consecutive losing seasons, and won a total of 17 games.

It’s hard to completing ignore Harbaugh’s accomplishments with the 49ers. He might not be a long term solution, but he has proven he can turn around a suffering franchise with a terrible front office.
