If the metal is aluminum...nothing to rot and metal screws go in like butter. If steel posts, make sure they are hot dipped galvanized. You will rot before they do. Commercial grade carports use galvanized steel posts. The car bends before they do. Home Depot and Lowe's should have aluminum posts. Galvanized steel will be a metal shop or frabricator.
