So it is okay for FCS, D2, D3 teams to maybe have multiple losses and win a NC but not FBS team?
I never said I thought their method of determining a champion was the correct and best way to do it. Just because they do it doesn't make in the correct way to do it nor does it mean I acquiesced to it being the right way

The risking of millions dollars is a dumb excuse. They do not have to play if they do not want to.
So it's ok for you to argue based on monetary gain but it's not ok for me to argue about monetary loss. Ok

For your example of blowouts, then why do we allow teams in the basketball hockey, baseball tourney. I mean people gear up to watch those games as well.
Well, if you paid attention to my argument, I said I think those tournaments are a poor way to determine the best team. Maybe I don't want football to succumb to the same format. I want the best team to be crowned champion. I think the regular season should matter. I don't think it's "fair" to have a team from a G5 conference coast through an easy regular season schedule and be on equal footing with a P5 conference with a much more difficult regular season.

UMBC and others have shown us teams that have no business winning can do it. It happens in football also....NDSU, Appy St, and many others have done it.
Have done what? Beaten a P5 school? What's your point? P5 schools do that every Saturday.

We wont agree on this. But we can at least have a civil conversation about it. Like we are doing.

I'm trying to be civil. I haven't called you any names. I've simply stated that FBS football cannot have a tournament that mirrors what other divisions do. You simply cannot guarantee a bid to a post season tournament to every single FBS conference when the schedules amongst those conferences are vastly different. You also cannot ask NFL prospects to play what would amount to 17+ football games in a season without being paid. As long as the NCAA forbids pay-for-play, it is unreasonable to think that would work. There's just no way around that. Lower divisions don't have to deal with that. They may have a handful of players throughout their entire division that play on Sundays. For the elite teams at the FBS level, you're talking about half or more of their rosters being future NFL players. That is a very real and relevant issue you don't want to address except for saying "they don't have to play." Yes, they do have to play. There is nowhere else they can play as long as the NFL restricts access based on age.
At the end of the day, there is maybe one team every few years from a G5 conference that has any modicum of a valid argument of deserving a spot in the playoffs. There wasn't anyone last year, anyone in 2018, UCF in 2017, no one in 2016, no one in 2015, no one in 2014. We do not need to completely blow up the playoff model to make those accommodations for outlier G5 schools that pop up every so often. If you want to argue to expand the playoffs to 8 teams, providing for 3 at-large bids and 5 auto-bids, I'll listen to that. That would provide for these outlier seasons from the G5 conferences. But when you argue for auto-bids from every conference, every year, that's a non-starter. And IMO, once you get past the top 8 teams, you're talking about potentially 2 and 3 loss teams that I don't believe have earned a spot to play for a national title.

This is copied and pasted from a post I made Nov 19 of last year
Current CFP Model

2 Ohio St
3 Clemson
4 Georgia
P5 Champs +1 model
Oregon vs Georgia (at large), winner plays LSU
Oklahoma vs Clemson, winner plays Ohio St
P5, Top G5, Plus 2
8 Cincinnati (G5) vs 1 LSU
5 Alabama (At large) vs Georgia (At large)
7 Oklahoma vs 2 Ohio St
6 Oregon vs 3 Clemson
Cincinnati is still top G5 due to unbeaten in AAC and ranked higher than Boise who is unbeaten in MWC
Bylaws used in every championship 20% of membership
17 Iowa vs 16 Notre Dame, winner plays 1 LSU
24 Miami, OH, vs 9 Oklahoma, winner plays 8 Penn St
20 Boise St vs 13 Michigan, winner plays 4 Georgia
21 Oklahoma St vs 12 Wisconsin, winner plays 5 Alabama
18 Memphis vs 15 Auburn, winner plays 2 Ohio St
23 Marshall vs 10 Minnesota, winner plays 7 Utah
19 Cincinnati vs 14 Baylor, winner plays 3 Clemson
22 Appalachian St vs 11 Florida, winner plays 6 Oregon
G5 Tournament plus 1
Marshall vs Appalachian St, winner plays Memphis (At large)
Miami, Oh vs Boise St, winner plays Cincinnati
Memphis is the At large due to Cincinnati being unbeaten in AAC
I like all of these models. I do not love the current model but I can live with it.
