Man one of the best guns for that age in my opinion is a .223 single shot / break over. Good caliber but also very safe and excellent for learning gun safety in the field

Here is a video of my 6 year old daughter avg size and weight shooting her 7mm-08 I got for her this year. I’m using the Hornandy Reduced Recoil rounds. Youtube
Here was her grouping today.. she stacked three shots on top of each other.
I enjoy shooting that gun too. Might have to sneak it out to the stand this year.

I was shooting a 6.5x55 at 5 and I was not a big kid. Any kid is going to be able to handle a 7mm08 with a youth sized stock. The recoil is negligible.
