Last year didn't help Saban too much.

Did it.

Voted Tuberville #2 (behind Miles). Most underrated coach in the country I think.

ok, criticize away.

here's my list. i didn't really have a consistent ruberic...there are plenty of cases where head to head my x choice may look worse than x+3....but oh well

1- visor boy: this may be more of a lifetime achievement award...but i think if he really put his mind to it, he'd be the best still.

2- ears: no, i don't like him, but year in and year out he wins despite never having the best talent in the league.

3- LES: i was very wrong about les. he is a damn fine football coach. i could very easily put him number one, though i gave the two others a few points for being around longer. well, ok, i have to give visor boy more credit for building florida...les isnt there...YET

4- richt: he has really taken the dawgs up a notch....though if he doesn't come thru with a championship soon, it could move him down a bit.

5- nutt: a poor mans tubby, the guy consistently won at arkansas. every time we played his team, i knew there was a good game coming. i think he is going to put the rebs in a bowl this year and turn them into a consistent 7-5 to 9-3 program which is good for them.

6- brooks: this guy was good at oregon, and i think he is turning kentucky into what will be a yearly bowl team. that's a good job for the school he is at.

7- croom: that program was left in shambles and he is building something. like the two above, his school limits him but he is very good at filling the role there. i think MSU will be a two up/one down program for the next few years, which i guess those folks would be happy with that.

8- meyer: 'he won with zooks recruits'. ok, i should slap myself silly for saying that. sorry, but i think the guy is just a better hal mumme with a mickey mouse offense. having tons of talent to pull from will keep him winning.

9- johnson: the guy does a pretty good job for vandy. i think NEXT year will be their bowl year...2009. like croom, he seems to be a good fit for that program. vandy will just never get the talent to compete in the SEC, but he is a guy who can keep them 5-7 to 7-5 every year.

10- petrino: i think this guy is a good coach, and perhaps got a bad rap with all the atlanta stuff. he should have handled it better, but at least he wasn't a bold faced liar about it. i think arkansas will start making some noise in 2009...they be a bowl team year after year and compete for the west 1 out of 3.

11- fulmer: he is an above average coach, and heck has a national championship. but considering the talent they have had there he should have done better.

12- ah yes, 12. here is my reason. gump fans think he is the second coming (second coming of who they worship, that is). the hype just doesn't add up to the production. he is a good coach, no doubt. good motivator, great recruiter, strong tactician. but he is NEVER going to bring alabama an SEC WEST championship, much less a national title.

the guy had one good year at michigan state he parlayed into the LSU job. LSU was a sleeping giant and he was the right man to awaken it. give him credit for that.

he doesn't have those resources at alabama though, and it is making his flaws become more and more evident.

the fact is, that bama got worse last year as the season went on. ie, the longer he had influence over the team, the worse it got. gump fans are going to crap their pants this year when they go 9-3...then the excuse next year will be a new qb when they are back to 7-5.

There's a great picture on ESPN's frontpage right now. It kind of shows Miles a step in front of the others.

Here's the link, although I don't know if that picture will still be up on the front page for long.
