I really think theres more to this. Ask yourself why dems are making an issue of Obamacare (unpopular) and a public option (even more unpopular) a central issue in this campaign? Trump touched on something in the debate that he must have seen in internal polling. Biden is treading water with his base. Rather than conveying a message that pulls in moderates and swing voters to put him over the top, he must be cagey about court packing and push for socialized medicine just to keep the loons interested.

The media believes their own bullshite, so its natural that people like Tapper try to buffalo these talking points. They believe Biden is winning and should be appealing to the middle. He's not because he is losing.
