I basically asked this question when it happened and the thread was anchored because everyone was creaming their pants at the time

Old thread for the lulz

I didn’t think it would be this bad. But people got it in their heads aranda sucked and would’ve been happy with anyone else

I was always in favor of keeping Aranda for as long as possible but he left to become a head coach - not our fault he left.

When we hired Pelini I thought it was a pretty good replacement. I don’t think anyone could have predicted what is happening with our D.

While I never thought it was a good hire, I think most people, myself included, were so giddy after 15-0 and the greatest season in the college football history, that we just tacitly accepted the hire, even though it was the exact opposite of what brought us success.

Bo had better ranked defenses than Aranda.

A fitting assessment. I didnt like it but with the talent we had when he got here and what we signed in the last class I thought, No One could screw this up!

I was wrong!

I thought he was because of his previous success at LSU, but I also didn’t take into account that he’s a dinosaur now

You really think Pelini is this bad? Maybe he wasn’t the right hire but players aren’t playing. #7 was terrible yesterday.

The game changes and some people like Pelini don't. Should have hired an up and coming coach not one who is over the hill. Why do you think he was at Youngstown State? Not because he was a success.

I have no problem to say I was 100% wrong about Pelini.

I thought he was a good hire because he had top five defenses here before.

But it’s clear now the game has passed him by. A freshman QB at Missouri threw 5 incompletions all game.

I don’t care how many players were lost from last year. That is not up to LSU standards on defense. Either we didn’t recruit well or the defense scheme is garbage.

He was good last time he was our coach. I thought coaching was like riding a bike.

Bc people don’t realize how overrated he was his first time here.

They hadn’t rewatched those games from 05-07. Pelini inherited a Saban/Muschsmp built defense stacked with D line talent, and proceeded to watch mid-aughts SEC offenses with less talent line up in the I and slam into Claude Wroten and Kyle Williams.

Not to mention the drastic slippage that occurred in 2007, when the Saban influence had started to fade.

It was so easy to see how this hire would be a disaster. People were just too enamored with O to think he’d make such a bad mistake. Turns out O fricking sucks and Aranda ran this team.

I figured he would be a solid stop gap hire with a high floor but low ceiling.

I think its obvious that the players don't know the playbook yet, especially the linebackers and the safeties. no-one knows their assignments and who to cover in certain formations. "who slides to who, who gets pushed to who in zone" hence that play where Eli let the wr get pushed to the deep safety who was nowhere to be be found. The defensive line is also not fast enough getting to the qb on passing downs...
I remember watching a def install of his defense at Nebraska on youtube and even I was lost. I say give it some time for it to sink in for these players. Pelini showed he's been successful before I'm pumping the brakes before he gets all the blame. he does get blame for not coaching the players and making sure they know their roles

That's just bull shite--I do not know anyone that thought Aranda sucked. Aranda was not very pleased with Coach O--that's why he left and to be a head coach
