You don’t get on Sabans level consistently by settling for good players because you failed to sign the great players. Period. This isn’t Ole Miss.

Last year Alabama signed a 3 star TE from Ohio ranked around the 500th best player in the nation. I'm sure they could have given that spot to someone higher ranked, they didn't.

I can’t speak to the TE Bama signed because I’m not familiar with the situation. Star ratings mean very little to me, if a guy like extended an offer that tells me he was not a 3-star in Sabans eyes. Remember, Josh Jacobs was some scrub 3-star from Oklahoma that Saban signed despite being on the heels of multiple Heisman winners at RB.

Context is everything. If Saban targeted the TE and camped him then you trust the eval and not the ranking. In this case with Langlois, he’s a local kid that didn’t get to improve his status with LSU at a camp this summer so what we do know is that Busch/Raymond went after Collier, Mukuba et al at first because they were clearly higher on the board, then when we started striking out they offered this kid late. That is typically not a great move.

Again, star rankings are not part of this conversation. LSU gets commitments from kids all the time that are not highly rated but the difference is you can tell the coaches knew what they had and targeted them early. Some of our best players the last decade or more fit this very profile. So, again, big difference than what’s going on here. Context matters.

Most tight ends are 3 stars.
Im sure he is probably more of a blocking tight end.
Bama takes one a year

I have no problem offering this kid, all I said is he is way better moving forward. He knocks the shite out of ball carriers.

I didn't see him making the class but they missed on the big fish.
He is from louisiana and those players usually turn out to be players
