Does anyone know what the deal is there with their liquor license? We called over the weekend and they said they had let it expire. We asked if we could bring our own bottle of wine, which we've done twice previously and they said no.

Is there some law that says they can't allow that?

They may be in the process of reassigning the license to have a bar. Last time I was there Johnny was telling me he was putting in a bar so people could watch LSU games. Not sure if something fell through but that was his plan at least. I would guess this is temporary unless something happend and they are not going in that direction.

Hmm last time I was in there I didnt order a beer.. Does sound a bit strange. Could be some politics in the issue too. Liquor Licenses often have alot of corruption tied to them. Wonder if this means he wont do the bar thing afterall.

Anything to do with a Church across the street and a pre-school down the road?

now .. i know that if you let it expire, you have to go through the process again .. then you have to go through the public hearing process .. there is a church and a day care right there .. but you have a mexican joint less than a block away and cafe americain right there too that serve liquor ..

I think that's only if you need rezoning again bc of change of owners, moves, etc. Either way, liquor lisc dont expire till dec 31. Trust me, I worked for ABC in college.

Would you need a rezoning if you add a bar to your establishment? That is the only thing I know that he had planned and it was soon. Otherwise how would his license have expired?

that's what i am saying, something's weird about that .. he must have been busted a few times for serving underage kids or something or .. like you said, there is an ownership change .. he has talked in the past about bringing in a partner .. maybe their "corporate" structure changed ..

i wouldn't think so, cat .. once you have the liquor license, you basically serve it any way you want to ..

CAB 1, vs CAB 2 vs package liquor to go.
Beer and wine, vs beer,wine,spirits.
The red tape goes on and on

i think you are correct. i think they are pretty much cash/check up front, no credit. may be the first cut back.

It took a long time for them to get their first lic. ...I can't imagine they would slip up and let it go...I walked out of there with 4 other couples after we found out no wine...I can't fathom they would just let it expire...

So you can confirm that they did once have one? I think something funny is going on too, because we've been told a lot of different "stories" about them getting a license. First we hear it's coming, then it's still coming, then it expired. Weird.

I ate there for lunch once and they had beer signs up so I assumed they were serving...but I had tea for lunch...so, I can't really say for sure they ever had one but I do remember a thread about them and was told they had one.

I have had beer there one 2 different occasions and I have always paid by debit/credit card. So they take that at least they used to...

like an earlier poster said, he may be applying for a full blown license to serve spirits at a bar during football season, but you're right .. it did them forever to get the first one and i just can't see them letting this one expire .. you pretty much have to have wine with good italian food .. it's just a sin not to ..
