So, dumb question. If one doesn't have youtube music, is there a way to play your downloaded songs? I know the player that came with my Windows phone existed for a while, but I cannot even remember what it was called. Groove music?

how much music? are you storing it on local NAS to play at your house or are you looking for a way to 'take it with you'?
unfortunately google play music was the ultimate 'take it with you' so there was very little incentive for smaller app builders to try & replicate (see hulklogan's post) since everyone loved google's solution.
feels a bit like we're back where we started in terms of music portability and you're looking at a USB stick in your vehicle or CD-ROM of your MP3s.
Google says 'abide by our ever-changing rules regarding how you can listen to your music we talked you into storing for you or FIND YOUR OWN WAY TO DO IT'
welcome to 2004 thanks google!
