Yay another post where OP thinks a study validates his idea but he actually fails miserably.

Your own link tells you what you need to know. Keep in mind that the primary method of transmission is large droplets.

quote:

Transmission of SARS-CoV-2
Note: A COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) particle is 0.125 micrometers/microns (µm); influenza virus size is 0.08 – 0.12 µm; a human hair is about 150 µm.
*1 nm = 0.001 micron; 1000 nm = 1 micron; Micrometer (µm) is the preferred name for micron
*1 meter is = 1,000,000,000 [trillion] nm or 1,000,000 [million] microns
Droplets

Virus is transmitted through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks.

Larger respiratory droplets (>5 µm) remain in the air for only a short time and travel only short distances, generally <1 meter. They fall to the ground quickly.

This idea guides the CDC’s advice to maintain at least a 6-foot distance.

Small (<5 µm) aerosolized droplets can remain in the air for at least 3 hours and travel long distances (up to 27 ft.).

Now, let's see what sizes the study you quoted actually studied:

quote:

Filter efficiency was measured across a wide range of small particle sizes (0.02 to 1 µm) at 33 and 99 L/min.
All the cloth masks and materials had near zero efficiency at 0.3 µm, a particle size that easily penetrates into the lung (SARS-CoV-2 is 0.125 µm)

Well look at that, they studied aersol particles, not large droplets. We know cloth masks don't protect very well against aersol particles, but they do protect pretty well against large droplets. Aerosol particles have not shown to be a significant source of spread.

You either can't read or didn't read..or else you think spitting in people's mouths is how you get it

Efficiency for the entire range of particles
T-shirts — 10%
Scarves — 10% to 20%
Cloth masks — 10% to 30%
Sweatshirts — 20% to 40%
Towels — 40%
so wait, you’re saying it does work 10-30%?

For particles the same size a Covid 0%, but for some 3 to 10x yes

Oh so a cloth mask will stop zero Covid particles and itransmission of all Covid particles through a cloth mask is exactly the same as without?

Saint, have you ever been hunting in 20 degree temps wearing a big thick wool or tight fitting fiber mask? Every breath is smoke/fog..that is the Vid getting in the air

Put it this way, first time it is 35 degrees this year put on a mask...go outside and see if you blow smoke...

That “smoke” is water vapor condensing when your breath cools off. If you wore a mask capable of preventing it, you’d suffocate. Because it’s, you know, water vapor.

Yes

And when I put on a face mask it stops a percentage of that fog

Because water vapor is a gas. It’s literally fricking air until it condenses due to the cold.

Are you serious?

So where do you think the Vid is distributing? It is breath, talking

So if I had 2 flights tomorrow. On the first I sat next to a guy with Covid that wore a mask the entire time. On the 2nd flight the guy didn’t wear a mask. Flights the same duration. You telling me the possibility of transmission is EXACTLY the same? 0 % difference? Is that what the science is saying?

Right. Suspended in droplets. Droplets that are larger than the actual virus particles, as others have pointed out.

And no, that doesn’t mean someone had to “spit in your mouth.”

The cloud from your breath on a cold day doesn’t exit your body as droplets - it’s a gas that condenses. This really isn’t rocket science.

That has been one of the most amusing things from all of this.

Seeing just how stupid some people really are when it comes to basic science. And they don't even realize just how fricking stupid they really sound.

These are the kids that got F's in science...all grown up

Did any of you idiots read the research, yes they will stay in the air longer, much longer..they will attach to your mask, the mask will contribute to you getting it..read the freaking link...read it

To be clear, I think there are valid reasons to question whether widespread mask usage is a public health benefit. The most obvious (to me) is the question of whether the positive impacts outweigh the potential negative public health effects from poor sanitation. I don’t pretend to know the answer.

But frick, people are gullible. This same organization published an article in 2005 that claimed 7,000 cases of leprosy occurred in the US over 3 years due to illegal immigration. Turned out that those 7,000 cases had actually occurred over 30 years and there was no evidence linking them to illegal immigration. Whoops.

There are posters here that I respect, with medical and/or scientific backgrounds, who have raised perfectly reasonable objections/questions around our response to COVID. But then there are folks like the OP who don’t have the slightest understanding of the science, but will push anyway because they read something on Twitter.

So you’re saying the droplets will attach to the mask. And therefore the asymptomatic COVID-positive person wearing the mask will catch COVID... from themselves?
