Cats get a lot of hate on here, but I love mine. I also love dogs but I travel a bit and don't have a fenced yard so it's not practical to get one.

My cat isn't a "typical" cat.. she's basically just like a small dog. Always by my side and asking for treats. Friendly to everyone.

On the other hand, my grandparents had a cat that lived to be about 16 and I swear to God in 16 years she only let 1-2 people even pet her. She was the meanest damn pussy I ever ran across.

Says a lot that when trying to sell how cool a certain cat is people usually describe it as almost like a dog.

I feel like at least half of cat owners say this.

My late brother-in-law once had a cat he called Psycho Teddy because it would let you pick him up, pet him and in the blink of an eye, he would try to disembowel you if he could.

Our cat had a stroke and died a little over a month ago and she lived to 11 and was damn near feral towards me most of her life. However, she would follow my wife around the house like a puppy and sleep next to, or on top of her every night.

I never wanted a cat but I owned one for 20 years. My cat developed cancer. Right before she died I was outside and a cat I'd never seen before watched my cat come to me to be picked up and taken inside.

I was outside several months later and I saw the strange cat. She came up to me and started rubbing against my leg. The strange cat will disappear for weeks or months but she always comes to me.

The cat is socialized and well cared for by someone. She loves to be petted but she's complete nonvocal.

Now I have the perfect pet. Over 2 years we bonded. I don't feed her. I don't worry about her. I don't have to make arrangements when I travel.
