.308 is my easy choice. Itll give you more horsepower for a very moderate increase in recoil. Shooting deer at basicslly any distance it wont matter either way, get whichever one tickles your fancy. If bigger game are ever a potential, the .308 stands out.

Just FYI
For a little more data (.308 using 165 hornady with a muzzle velocity of 2700fps and the 6.5 cm using 143gr ELD-x also traveling at 2700 muzzle velocity)
But, for the OP, either are great cartridges.
I have 3 .308s and 2 6.5cm.
Building my son a 6.5m as soon as the action gets back from the shop.
