Does anyone buy the "economy would be in shambles if we were free" argument?

I remember seeing "A good economy is useless if everyone is dead!" back in March/April to justify shutdowns.

I think the CDC death rates paint the picture here. Virtually 0% chance of death if you are under the age of 60. And only 5% if you are over 70. The plan always should have been to protect the elderly and let everyone live their lives.

It's a lie up there with "all we had to do was wear masks and social distance for a couple weeks and we would be back to normal by now" line I see all the time. People still are saying this and they are serious. As if these power hungry politicians wouldn't just shift the goalposts and find a new reason to keep us all locked down and under their thumb had the "just wear a mask and social distance for 2 weeks" strategy actually worked.

No. Given the survival rate under 60 is north of 99.5%, it’s an absolutely ridiculous claim.

if the economy isn't running well, there won't be hospitals and hospital staff to treat people for ANY condition. hospitals are going out of business all across the country because they stopped elective services. that means hospital staff are being laid off and people aren't getting procedures that they normally would be
