Why the push for everyone to be on it??

Glad I'm never gonna use it
Sucks I've had to fund it my entire working life, though

You pay Medicare taxes on your W-2 wages, not medicaid.

And where do Medicaid dollars come from, Kreskin?

Yes. Medicaid is Universal Healthcare for poor people that you pay for - with your taxes, and if you’re self employed with a portion of your health insurance premium that funds someone else’s “supplement.”
You also allegedly pay for your Medicare premium in advance of turning 65- but really you’re just paying for people that are over 65, many of whom also buy a supplement.

Not him, but Medicaid is funded by states.

Is this a widely held policy position?

This is half true.

Oh. The states print money. I see.
(60% of state Medicaid Budgets come from FedGov. You’re welcome.)

Anyone who advocates for Medicare for all is unknowingly advocating for Medicaid for all.

No, it is an obvious fact.

It's an important distinction. This dude was probably beating his chest about all them taxes he pays when in reality he has zero clue how much he has paid into Medicare in his life.

It’s a completely unimportant distinction. Only an idiot would claim otherwise.

Medicaid does provide poor people healthcare to a certain extent. Many specialists will not take Medicaid; ie they will only except so many patients a year. So if you have a specific medical condition or need surgery you're likely SOL and will be waiting a while for treatment.

It's an obvious fact that a large part of the body politic, described by you as "everyone", is pushing for it? Not really. You must run in very weird circles politically. Best I can tell this is nothing close to a consensus position in either party.

I think Medi-anything for all would fail for the exact same series of reasons, but I'm still curious what you mean by this.

Medicaid sucks.
Medicare is supposedly awesome.
No one would get behind a “Medicaid for all” plan. So they pretend it would be “Medicare for all.”
But reimbursement would go off a cliff. Provider participation would crater.
And presto. You’ve got Medicaid for all.

Good point. It probably would become Medicaid, which does suck.
However, Medicare is not awesome but it's better than Medicaid.

Best I can tell advocates are absolutely sincere about wanting the payments on the Medicare fee schedule. But most hospitals can't survive on the commercial rate for Medicare trade and you'll end up with the provider participation issue you describe. I don't think it ever gets to Medicaid for all. It fails when hospitals close all over the country in towns and small cities.
