Hello Who Dats & Who Datettes... it's the game thread for Week 3, Game 3 of the 2020 New Orleans Saints season!!!
So the good start to the 2020 season hit a bit of a snag on Monday night in Las Vegas, but no need to worry b/c 1-1 is a familiar position for the Saints, who haven't started 2-0 in a season since 2013. In fact, the 2017 Saints started the season 0-2 and still won 11 games, won the division, and sent Cam Newton & the Panthers packing in the playoffs (I have no recollection of what happened the week after that and you can't force me to remember. Lalalalalalalala fingers in ears)... so in the immortal words of Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, RELAX!!
In order to avoid being 1-2 after 3 weeks like the 2017 team, this version of the Saints have to defend the Dome in primetime (something the Sean Payton Saints have been typically very good at) against the aforementioned Rodgers & perennially playoff-bound Packers. The questions about Drew Brees arm, the team's actual depth at wide receiver, and whether or not our DBs can finally stop committing pass interference on pretty much every deep pass will be watched closely as this game could be a big one in the story of the 2020 New Orleans Saints season.
Second-year Packers head coach Matt LeFleur and Green Bay rolled through two NFC North Divison games to start the season, having put up 43 and 42 points against the Vikings and Lions, respectively. So a Saints defense that gave up 34 points to Derek Carr on Monday night will be stretched to its limits again. This is the first of 3 straight games against the NFC South for Green Bay, who host the Atlanta Falcons next week before their week 5 bye, and then go to the giant pirate ship to take on Tom's Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 6.
The key in tonight's game is which offense will be able to do the most work without its best receiver as it appears both teams will be without their WR1 for this game. More about that below, and we all know about the impact of Michael Thomas, but Davante Adams had 156 receiving yards and 2 TDs in week 1 in Minneapolis, and caught all 3 passes thrown his way against Detroit for 30+ yards in week 2 before going out with injury, so that will be a key loss if he can't go tonight.
We go back to the aforementioned 2017 season for the last time these 2 teams met, which happened at Lambeau Field on October 22nd, a 26-17 Saints win. Ted Ginn, Jr. went off for 141 receiving yards and the often-imitated, never duplicated Drew Brees leap with <5:00 left proved to be enough to propel the Saints to the win. That was a game Aaron Rodgers missed and Brett Hundley started and threw for just 87 yards. Current Saint (now on IR) Ty Montgomery had 4 carries for just 6 yards for Green Bay in that game.
LET'S SMACK THE PACK AND GET BACK ON THE RIGHT TRACK IN 2020!!!

I Love the Saints!
I want us to win
Tough game on a short week. But we need a win.

Without the Fans plus a lackluster effort Saints will lose by 20 (change my mind)

the 0-2 Falcons are putting it on the 2-0 Bears right now... without Julio
but it's the Falcons... so no lead is safe with them
ETA: 2 Bear TDs have been overturned on replay to Falcon possessions (1 from TD to INT, 1 from TD to incomplete pass on 4th down for turnover on downs)

Browns beat Redksins
Bills beat the Rams
Ttans beat the Vikings. Vikings now 0-3.
