Get a stand alone (Larger) whole home surge protector in a separate panel. The ones that plug into the panel do not provide sufficient protection.
Totally worth it if you want to provide some protection to your electronic equipment from power surges. Now, a friend had a close strike, submitted a claim to his insurer and got all new electronics. So maybe insurance and a strike every ten years is best.

This isn't true. The main difference between them is how long they last, especially if you have an underground service to your house.
