I think most people don't realize that this is Jrue's last year under contract. He has a player option for 2022, and i see no reason why he would play under it at his age if he knows he can get another 4 year deal done.
MM has brought up Jrue extensions multiple times this summer I assume for this reason. If he says no then that tells you it's probably time to trade him.
With the uncertainty of the cap and league finances he might want to lock in more guaranteed money/years with an extension. He's made that choice before. Jrue's 2nd contract was considered a good deal because a lockout was looming so Jrue and other players like Steph Curry took the guaranteed money on what ended up being team friendly deals once the lockout ended.

Do you want to extend Jrue say 4 more years at the same value, around $25M/yr?
Not sure I can say I'd absolutely want to do that. I love Jrue, but i honestly don't think he's the veteran leader we expected him to be. Maybe he is, i don't know. I think jrue would rather be quiet and let his play lead the way, and while every team needs that, we need a vocal veteran leader. JJ was that guy this year, not Jrue.
