There’s an elephant in the room

CGJ has Gardner-Johnson on the back of his jersey, but legally changed his name to Ceedy Duce. Word on the street is that Sean Payton wants his original name on the jersey. Whether that is fake or not, why does he not have Duce on his jersey if he did legally change his name?
At end of the day, i dont care either way, but it doesnt makes sense to me...
Side note: his name sounds like what your poop would look like the day after you ate a bunch of jalapenos.

I’ll guarantee you’re a trolling douche and Sean doesn’t give any fricks about this

Im being genuine, honestly. I heard rumors of Sean saying that. That why I alluded to it being potentially fake the sentence after. And it probably is.
But thats not the point of the thread.
I just simply wanna know why he changes his name, but stays with the old name on the jersey.

Could be literally contractual, the name CGJ is on the contract the young man signed with the franchise.
Might be a League rule that the team is bound to only use the name on the player’s contract?
Otherwise some special teamer changes his legal name to John GoDaddy.com and profits....

I don't think that's true cause donte "hitner" and Chad "ochocinco"

Potentially the rule could be newer than your two examples.
It could be a Saints’ franchise-specific rule.
I doubt the Ochocinco farce is what the NFL wants to repeat.

The Saints' No. 22 isn't changing his name legally just yet and he won't be offended if someone still calls him C.J. Gardner-Johnson, but the background, he said, "it's complicated." "Ceedy," he said, is something he likes to be called, while "Duce" stems from his coaches calling him "Ducey," which probably comes from how he wears No. 22.

"The name change is something I want to go by," he said. "And the legal part, we'll talk about that later."

Cmon man this is seriously what you come up with on a Friday night? He hasn’t even legally changed it yet.

We didn’t draft ceedy duce so that shite won’t be worn.
Posted on 9/19/20 at 8:20 am to Ryan3232
He prob never changed it legally, just talked shite on twitter like they all do.

If you title a thread "elephant in the room" you should link the source of your rumor so everyone doesn't think your a punk arse troll.

Maybe another Ceedy Duce threatened to whip his fricking arse if he changed it and hijacked his burgeoning career as a rap artist?

You have to do it early enough and with enough notice or the player is responsible for paying for all the wasted merch.
IIRC, that's why Chad Johnson had to wait to change his name on his jersey.

Porter planned to go from 84 to 81 -- until he learned it would cost him about $210,000. The NFL requires that players reimburse Reebok, the league's official supplier, for the value of the jerseys already printed for sale to fans, which would become obsolete after a name or number change.

The phrase elephant in the room does not mean what you think it does.
