Because Trump has inserted himself into the political world and is partisan by definition.
Gates, although falsely, has portrayed himself as a technology and global health leader who is above the fray and non-partisan.
Apparently a lot of people buy that. I don't.
Also, Gates has Trump's money in his couch cushions.
