This is the first time in my life that I’ve seen the nationwide “conservative” standpoint win a culture battle and essentially force liberals to admit that they’re full of shite and reverse a politically charged, pointless decision.

I’m thinking it’s more about universities realizing how much money they will lose if they don’t play.

They’re also losing their donors. Lifelong fans are saying “frick you” to these idiotic institutions.

I completely agree that it is, but even then, when have you ever seen the left do this even if it saves them money? Literally never lol. They lose and spend incredible amounts of money to retain their #1 resource which is power.

But they knew that from day one. I think it's more about their own players and coaches looking at other teams starting to play and getting pissed.

That is part of it as OSU was facing $130 million loss, but the players, families, and fans were raising hell and calling for heads. Their voices are pretty loud.

The problem is really that football and basketball $ end up subsidizing the rest of the sports. You can lose out on all the football money and be totally fine...if you don’t have to pay any coaches or allow any other sports to play. What you can’t do is cancel football and think you can still afford men’s soccer, cc/track, and all of the women’s sports.

This is the only answer. It’s all about the money. It would be financially devastating.

you're absolutely right.

And consider this- the same principle applies to state and local economies, and a whole lot of businesses. Nothing in this world is built to survive a continued, long shutdown. That's why embargos work.

It wasn't glamorous, but being able to define who would reopen and who would shut down will be a huge factor. There's probably going to be a lot of expected Biden supporters who do the math, and say "we can't do this".
