You can walk up smugglers mountain right in town. It's a fire road that goes switch backs until you get to the top but then you have a nice view over the town. Keep going and it becomes single track. Since it's in town, there are a lot of people on the trail including mountain bikes. There is a nice paved path along the frying pan river in town and trust me, with the altitude, you will want a flat trail.
