How does a movie like "The King's Speech" now qualify?
If you take this particular movie, the only way for it to qualify would be to inject some contrived scenes where you force some storyline from the British colonies and how they related to the storyarc that didn't actually occur in real life. That contrived storyline would then harm the overall quality of the movie.
It's so dumb.

Correct. They've basically torpedoed any movies based on European history. I guess directors can try to shoehorn some gay characters into the plot. But of course, it would be kind of awkward considering a character's sexual orientation rarely has a significant relevance to the plot of the movie.

Probably part of the agenda, to divert big budget movies away from white historical story lines
You can make a fake movie about old Europe that won’t be good, you can pursue a movie that will be up for awards, or you can make a realistic European movie that won’t be up for awards.
