The media is using the same tactic I’ve seen for decades with regards to a story when someone with whom they are sympathetic gets caught clearly red handed doing some dirt:
They don’t address the dirt being done, they focus on republicans or conservatives “seizing” onto the event. That way, they can report on it but turn it back.
This type of reporting goes way back.
