I have an interview for a job in Tacoma. Schools seem very good and definitely doesn't seem to be a shortage of outdoor recreation. Can anyone offer any insight into the area? Much appreciated!

Most of the area is great except Seattle proper. Lots of good people and outdoor rec opportunities.

Some areas on hilltop I hear are being gentrified. Other neighborhoods have gone downhill. North end appears to still be nice. Your realtor will know.

I lived there for several years. I loved the city. It's close to everything. Pro sports in Seattle. Mariners Triple A team is in Tacoma (last I knew).

Ocean beaches are 2 hours away, best beaches are 4 but the sound is right there for many types of water activities. Oregon beaches are 3 hours away.

Mountains and skiing are close. Very centrally located for a lot of activities. Lots of opportunities to fish/hunt.

You won't get bored.

I would have zero reservations about moving back if didn't commute. The traffic is definitely worse than when I left in 2005. You used to be able to count on when it's bad but that's not completely true anymore.

If working in Tacoma you won't deal with it much so that's a big plus.

Idaho is 5 hours away. As is Central Oregon. Lots of nice areas to visit in northern/eastern Washington. Vancouver in B.C. is 3.5 hours away.

North End Proctor District is awesome. Everything north of 6th Ave in Tacoma proper is nice.
