I have a CPA and have to go through mine carefully pre-filing which takes a good bit of time. 2019 I caught a $19k+ Fed taxable interest omission but state filing would have been correct, although that was the first time something like that happened in 10 years of him doing my taxes. Also received an IRS letter in 2016 in which they incorrectly categorized a RE transaction and it took 3 months to fix as their reading comprehension was awful. At the end of the day, he will represent me for free dealing with the IRS so it's worth paying him.

Well, after 4.5 hours on the phone with the IRS yesterday, I got it resolved. Between waiting on hold to talk to someone, Being sent to someone else with wait times over 30 minutes each time, being cut off and having to start over in the call queue, being sent to the wrong department, it was a breeze. I literally was on the phone between 1045 and 3:15. Government inefficiency at its finest. Thx to those of you who responded.
