I went for the first time last year, and it was the first time while on vacation I started looking for jobs in the area.
We’ve been going up there for 10 years and we love it. I periodically look for jobs in the area. If I could find a comparable paying job I would move to the Jasper area in a heartbeat.

That was right outside Jasper, overlooking the Arkansas Grand Canyon.

My wife and I made several trips to White River,Buffalo River and Bull Shoals Lake years ago.We decided to move there so we went and got jobs at Mountain Home hospital. We loved living there but the pay was terrible,we thought we would be back up to our La. salaries in a couple of years but it wasn’t happening. We would have never been able to retire if we had stayed there.
There is a “plantation mentality” there-Drs.,hospital management, contractors were all very wealthy.Hospital staff, plumbers, carpenters, electricians, etc.salaries were very poor.If you live there you take what they pay you.
It is a good place to retire if you have your money made,I often kick myself for not retiring there. Can’t do it now, gotten all bogged down with land and house in the country, children, grandchildren all here.Wife couldn’t stand being away from grandchildren, would be hard for me also.

I’ve been a few times. One of my favorite trips. We used wild bill’s outfitters. We camped on along the river. Like several people said go in late May or early June. Later in the year the water level drops.

We went for 4 years in a row up till '16. We would go in late September to get the afterseason prices with Wild Bill's outfitters near Yellville. That time of the year there is hardly anyone on the river. River will be really low in spots. Like others have said, watch the weather. River floods can be very dangerous within no time. Fishing for smallmouth was great. Be prepared for cold weather. Usually they would have there first frost within days of us being there

ETA: I posted the wrong cabin, both are on the same property overlooking roughly the same area.
The cabin was great, very peaceful, about a 15 minute drive from the booming metropolis of Jasper, but seemed like we were a minimum of 30-45 minutes from any trails we wanted to go hike, the commute was an enjoyable scenic drive. We went to Branson, and also fly fished the White River from there. It wasn't ideal on those days, because it was a lot of car time but was a solid home base, for a first trip up there to decide where we would stay on the next trip.
