If I replace it with a new (cheap) indoor tv will I have the same problem in a year? Or can I expect at least 4-5 years out of it before replacing? Would rather go that route than drop 1k on an outdoor tv.

$1k for an outdoor TV is not a bad deal, but then again I’m not sure what size you’re looking at.

If the TV is protected from precipitation and large volumes of dust/moisture, you should be fine for a few years with an indoor TV.

It’s not a huge patio so anything around 40 inches. I see Best Buy has some insignias on sale for $130.
