Any expert plumbers in here? Question:

If I have a 3 handle shower with Hot, Cold and a Diverter are all of the manifolds the same? Will I be able to swap the stems directly from a new kit into the manifold already in the wall? Or do I have to rip sheetrock to get to the new manifold and install it?

You can replace the stems. I believe the diverter is the same as well b/c I just did the same exact thing in a rental last week.

You can buy the stems, no reason to buy a complete kit. Buy a set of stem wrenches, they're cheap.

Well she wanted newer handles and stuff so we got a new kit complete with manifold. The old handles were shite. Took a handle puller to get those old bastards off.

Yes, but not just any new kit. Have to get a kit with the same or compatible stems. Should likely be close enough if you stay in the same brand. Take all of the stems out to compare, and then take one with you to the store. Lowes has a section where you can just buy replacement stems, knobs, etc.

That's sort of the problem. There are exactly 2 (two) kits that are 3 handle at Home Depot. So you get your choice of two.

Thank God for ansi standards. I saw that you've already bought a kit, but you can find a variety of knobs that'll fit your new stems.

I’m a plumber but far from an expert. I tried changing the bathtub drain cover once and destroyed the entire plumbing setup beneath the tub.

I am no plumber but you cant just buy a random faucet set and have the pieces be interchangeable. If you are in Baton Rouge go to B&B Faucet on Fla Blvd. They are the faucet gurus. They have parts and kits for everything

That's what I was going to suggest too. I would just try to take one of the stems with you or all three and see what they have.... Someone there should be able to match it up by sight.
I would hesitate to wear one of your stupid fancy watches though, they priced by what they think they can get away with.

That's my next step. I'm not a total idiot but I also don't want to spend $400 on a set that isn't for me.
