When I go fishing and plan to keep fish i mix equal parts water and ice in the ice chest. Catch a fish, drop in the ice chest, it swims down and dies in under 2 minutes, gets really cold, meat is firmer, and they are normally straight. Makes them much easier to fillet.

Thank you CHEDBALLZ. I am gonna start doing this. I always heard that this approach is better for specs too. Makes the meat stay fresher and taste better.
