We had people in our group ages 12 to 70. I took a look at how far it would be to bike from the hotel to the Bubble Room and I think it was about 10+ miles. As a result, I felt that anything past the bridge to Capitiva was a little too long to bike.
What I also noticed when I got there was that Sanibel was pretty well laid out with bike paths so getting around on Sanibel proper was pretty easy. Capitva also had bike paths but not as much. (Maybe that was just where I went on Capitiva).
One other thing: It seems that they take their 'light pollution' pretty seriously. At night, the roads don't seem to have a lot of illumination. All of the businesses seem to be set back off the road behind trees, etc. It actually is pretty nice.
