There are two types of surety put up to cover his 1M dollar bond. There is a typical commercial bond for $822k which require Ward to pay the company some percentage, historically it was 10% but varies with the jurisdiction (I don't practice in LA) and circumstance. The rest of the bond is covered by two property bonds. The two people put up their real property as a surety. If he shows up to court properly they will get clear title back and essentially it costs nothing, though some areas have some minor admin fees.
