Pastors are shepherds. Sheep live IRL. Sheep hear every kind of aberrant voice imaginable ("systemic racism," "rampant police brutality," "white privilege/supremacy"). The sheep need to hear what the Word of God says to the issues of the day unless the Lord Jesus has no opinion on them.
IMO, that is sticking to religion.

I can assure you that if your pastor doesn't say something on the topic it's not right. It's like a 500 alligator sitting in your living room, you can't ignore it. Honestly I don't care what your pastor says, but he needs to be relevant in today's world with his message. He needs to bring it home to all of us so we understand that God is different from all the political mess out there and ...... he can add his own stuff after that....
