This is basically where we are now. For all the fuss about masks, the overwhelming majority of people are wearing them. Some worn incorrectly, some crappy masks, but compliance has been pretty high. But some are so emotionally invested in the mask thing that they don't realize that its effectiveness is limited. It has never been the silver bullet they think it is.

As for what to do, there is only one answer: Carry on with our lives and let this virus run its course. The shutdowns were a failed and futile strategy that accomplished nothing.

Maybe where you’re at, but overall this just isn’t the case.

I’ve been in Florida, Alabama, Missouri, and Kansas over the past 2-ish months. KC is the only place where mask-use is high. Virtually non-existent in Florida.

I'm over 60 and not healthy, so I haven't been out much.

I had to take my dad's truck for an inspection sticker. Nobody there was wearing a mask. Not just talking customers. None of the employees had them on either.

I had to get a battery for my security system at Lowe's. The employees had on mask, and other people that looked like homeowners did, but none of the guys that looked like professional contractors had them on.

I went to a local restaurant Friday to pick up food and saw a guy from my church go in without a mask. The people I've talked to who have been going to church through last weekend said who's wearing them is about half and half.

Most people working at stores and restaurants are wearing them, but the general public in NELA hasn't been. After all of the "If you want football this fall, wear a mask" messages I've seen lately, maybe they start wearing them.
