Anyone read this Vietnam War novel by Karl Marlantes? I've heard great things and have been meaning to pick it up.

I really enjoyed it. May need to read again soon. Definitely check out “What it is like to go to War” by Marlantes. Also, “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien. If not familiar with the era, then maybe read these two as primers, then Matterhorn.

Yes. It was good, but bleak and wrenching.

Great book. I'd also suggest Dispatches by Michael Herr.

I watched Ken Burns's The Vietnam War a few months back and just realized that Marlantes is featured heavily in the interviews. The guy was on a Rhodes Scholarship, enrolled at Oxford, and dropped out to fight in the war. Pretty gnarly.
