For the people comparing Minneapolis riots to the Boston Tea Party, STOP!

They are not even comparable.
Yes, patriots were destroying property for a political statement, but it was British tea owned by the British East India Company, a government company owned by the tyrant King George III.
Looters are taking advantage of community pain in Minneapolis to destroy and steal from Target, auto parts stores, Wendy's, etc. You think Target and Wendy's own the Minneapolis Police and ordered that POS cop to kneel on the guy's neck? The destruction, theft, and pillaging of private commercial property cannot be logically defended and is not comparable to the Boston Tea Party.

Any company that defends the looters who have ravaged their stores (Target) will get zero sympathy from me
I guarantee you Target will refuse to cooperate with authorities or prosecutors because their calculations will show that pandering to their white liberal clientele is more beneficial than prosecuting and claiming insurance.

I agree on the private property. Especially the Target; in the Boston Tea Party, they dumped the tea into the harbor. The looters didn’t simply destroy Target’s TVs/appliances/food, they took them for themselves (and even if they did destroy them, it’s private property as you said). Many of those looters probably don’t care too much about Greg Floyd or trying to make a social change, they were just taking advantage of an opportunity to steal stuff.
The overtaking/burning of the precinct, destroying cop cars, etc., is more comparable to the Boston Tea Party. Not saying it’s necessarily the right thing to do or exactly analogous to the BTP, but it’s more comparable.

Oh yes, they’re taking advantage of the opportunity to steal as they can blend in with the large crowd and also they’re wearing masks.

Lost my shite on an old classmate on social media over this one. First time in a long time. I hadn’t said anything about any of the events in Minneapolis til I saw him compare it to the Boston Tea Party.

It goes even further than that. The tea act was made for two reasons. To prop up a failing British company and tax Americans unfairly with no voice.
Did the government say Africa Americans have to shop at Target, foot locker, or those liquor stores?
Did those local businesses have anything to do with that man’s death?

Not that it's important, but by 1773 it was effectively under government control. It wasn't all that well run of a company by that point, which is partly what led to the Tea Act in the first place.
But yes, Parmen is right.

Infuriates me to watch the smug look on the officer's face who had the knee planted into the poor guy's neck. I, like many others, are so tired of seeing these atrocities play out in today's society. These few idiots bring negative light to the majority of law enforcement workers who simply want to do a good job.
But there a those who use these protests as a platform to achieve their goals...the race-baiters who fan the flames of racial divide, the thugs-both black & white who simply uses the chaos as a diversion to destroy & steal property, and last but not least, the fake news outlets who put their own spin on things to promote their hatred for Trump!
Praying that fair, thinking minds prevail and justice be served swiftly & soundly.

"Government control" is nebulous, it was an animal unto itself of many powerful influences.
Mostly international high finance like the Rothschilds, Sassoons, Seagrams etc. but this is whitewashed from history. The British Crown has been controlled by I international high finance, chiefly the Rothschilds since the Napoleonic wars.

Uh huh. Well, we're in the early-to-mid 1770s when 3/5 of the seats in the governing council of the company were appointed by Parliament and the company was leasing itself back from the government. I'm not going to argue that political influence and monied interests are disjoint, but I don't think the OP was too far off in his characterization.

And it wasn't as free of government oversight as you'd have us believe. Sorry, mate.

You mean like suggesting that I said the Company was owned by King George?
What did I fabricate? You were correct to point out it was a joint stock company and not directly owned by the monarchy. I never disputed that. I merely laid out the ties to the government, which is all that really needed to be established in the context of the OP. You took issue with that; not sure why.
You keep flexing that "muh alternate history" muscle, though. Just might want to align your decades a little better.

You mean to tell me the architects of the Boston Tea Party didn't break into "Ye Olde Circuit City" and pilfer some wide-screen TV's?
