Twelve-year-old Alessandro Franzoi and his family were picnicking in northern Italy when an uninvited guest decided to join them: a large brown bear. Alessandro was higher up on the Dolomites mountain range looking for stones when the curious bear approached him. A viral video captured the whole encounter.
In the clip, Alessandro stays incredibly calm as his father guided him down the mountain away from the bear, Today reports. “Don’t turn your back to him. He’s not paying attention to you,” he said while the boy slowly walked down the mountain. “Mama!” the boy cried in fear as he continued to creep away from the bear. “Stay calm,” his dad replied while they backed down the mountain. After a very suspenseful couple of steps, Alessandro finally made it safely to his parents, and the bear ran away. Phew.

The Italian Brown Bear is not aggressive towards humans. He or she was being curious.

"Don't turn your back to him"?
The kid already has his back to the bear. Bad translation?

I had no idea there were brown bears in Italy or Europe.
Thought they were only in Russia and North America.

If that bear wanted to kill, eat or attack that family, it would've done so and there is likely nothing they could have done about it at that distance. They are alarmingly fast and amazingly quiet when they want to be.

What is odd to me is that the father is backing up and letting his son stay between him and the bear. I think I would have gotten my son behind me and then backed up as he did. The father was backing up the same speed as the son was approaching.

Dude risked his son's life for a few facebook likes. Great parenting by him.
