My standard poodle was by far the easiest dog I have ever had to train for basic obedience. I never trained him to hunt but feel like I could pretty easily. Whenever I clean ducks, doves, etc he goes apeshit if i dont start tossing some for him.

ETA: He is fast as hell on land. Not the strongest swimmer though, but he loves the water.

Not yet though since he's half poodle I'm sure he could learn....but then I'd have to change his name to Braxton

We have a few that retrieve when they want to retrieve but have a few that are maniacs for retrieving as much as any of my labs. We will check his water ability soon. I didn’t want to mess with this dog being he was a pretty big deal for my wife in the show ring and hair is a premium. He is 2 & 1/2 years old and freaky athletic. He is lined up to breed somewhere between 8-15 times this year just off of his short show career. My wife really wants a hunt test title and maybe some obedience titles. She stopped him from showing anymore because she has another male that doesn’t retrieve like him but may be an even better show prospect.

We have 8. Some are being placed in “guardian homes” for future breeding if she chooses. We plan on maybe 2 breedings this year and that would be a lot of work for her. That would give her the best chance of success in the show ring and also probably give me more work than I want. I have just bought a load of woodworking tools from grizzly and I would like to set up my shop but I see dog work on the horizon. Lol

Hearing protection, you don’t want to be deaf like I am. That pistol is louder than you think.

Is your dog named Elvis? I know someone with a poodle named Elvis, who is the most athletic dog I have ever seen.
