Two of my all-time favorites:

"We've got to put more points on the board than the other team" and "We've got to put the ball in the endzone to score points".

Told the team before a game to go out and win one for the "MAROON AND WHITE" Poor Curley was thinking he was still at Texas A&M

I was in law school at U of A when that douche bag was their secondary coach and I used to see him out drinking-a lot. Talked to him a few times. The quote about his time at LSU that I remember most was:

"The schedule was just too hard."

I don't know what his suggestion was for fixing that other than moving to Conference USA.

I'm for posting LSU's worst AD. My vote goes to Joe "Screen Music" Dean. He's the one who put us in that time warp. I'll never forget the horrible times in Tiger Stadium when we would lose to Moo State, Kentucky, Ole Piss. The thing that really pissed me off during that time frame is how the atletic department and board let it go on for that period of time. Being at LSU during the late sixties and early seventies, I felt that we got what we deserved for our treatment of Charlie Mac. I used to be pissed when I saw LSU fans with signs that said Help Mac Pack. And when Tulane started beating us, their fans had signs that said Keep Mac Packed. Fans were pissed because he couldn't beat the Bear. Hell, in my sophomore year in '69 we beat the Bear. He was a good coach and if it wasn't for Archie Who in '69 we could have won it all. We got what we deserved and I couln't stand Jerry Stovall. I respected him as a player but there was no way in hell that he should of been a head coach. With his hire, the domino effect started. We had one reprive with the old man who jumped ship and went to Florida. He stuck us with a replacement that he knew was no good. He wanted Florida to wax our arse. We got both a wax and a buff job. Hopefully, we never experience the Joe Dean years in LSU history ever again. Dean is nothing but a freaking drunk.

It's Joe "String Music" Dean. If "Screen Music" was meant to be a joke, I don't get it. Please explain.

"Screen Music" was his way of screening good coaches who applied for the LSU job. Joe Dean was a joke. I hope that you remember one coach who wanted the job and Joe Screen, screed him.

We don't need to bring up Curley Hallman.

Signed: LSU grad (1991-1995). I am jealous of the kids who started as freshmen in '03 and graduated in '07. Two titles in 4 years of college. Has to feel good. My experience was the exact opposite of that.

zack... I sort of understand what you're saying... I was an undergrad during the same years as you. It was horrible, but I truly feel it's those years of Hallman (and the last two of DiNardo) that help me to appreciate the "Golden Years" we're going through now that much more. Not that I wouldn't enjoy the current experience anyway, but it's so much better to know from experience where we've been. I can remember after the 95 season camping out for Independence Bowl tickets! How far we've come....

It does give me a sick feeling to think about the early 90s. I'm just glad we've reversed the trend and are now regular competitors for the national crown.

I dont know...but I think Lou Tepper had the best one of all when he said something to the effect of:

"It takes a kid about 5 years to really understand and grasp our defense." 5 years? When a kid is typically in college for only 4? fricking moron

Anyone named "Curley" from Muscle Shoals, Alabama should never be allowed with 50 miles of LSU football.

I'm with ya on that. We wouldn't have had all those bad years if we hadn't had that bastard Joe Dean. So damn stupid and cheap and the epitome of "good ole boy." I'm glad that Emmert took over when we hired Saban. Joe Dean was just terrible as an AD and made horrible choices in hiring.
Brodhead was so right about college sports and was so ahead of his time. When he was forced out, we got what we asked for, something from the past - like a dinosaur. It almost killed our programs.

Since ca. 2000 or so, LSU started doing the things that Brodhead was advocating 20-25 fricking years ago. Sure the guy had his flaws, but he knew where college sports, especially football, was heading.
