Haynesville Shale North of Benton??

Good news, people up north!! I just got wind that some action is taking place up around Plain Dealing and surrounding area. Anybody else heard anything?

Yeah that the Haynesville shale isn't present past Benton. Petrohawk has publicly stated they aren't leasing any further North than the 19N/20N boundary. Throw in the dry holes right at/around Benton and CHK, Petrohawk and the others aren't giving any credence to lands north of this point. After speaking with CHK last week they pretty much confirmed that they aren't the least bit interested in anything North of Benton. There is the chance for Cotton Valley and other formations further north, but not the Haynesville Shale and it's big bonus dollars.

I doubt it. If somebody is leasing up there it's not for the Haynesville shale. Maybe for Cotton Valley, Haynesville sands, or Pettet but not the Haynesville shale. If you say people are leasing then do tell what company is up there leasing. I'm very familiar with the area and I'm pretty certain the Haynesville shale is not present that far north.

TigerDog is probably the most knowledgeable poster on ANY site about the Haynesville Shale.

I'm a bit more informed about this than I imagine that you are, without getting in to why I think the shale doesn't exist that far north do tell who is doing the supposed leasing for the Haynesville shale in Plain Dealing?

not so fast, you know it all!!! You should already be aware.

Don't tell me you are another one of the people around that area who thinks the Haynesville sand is the same thing as the Haynesville shale.

well then how the hell could you know there is "haynesville shale" action up at Plain Dealing without a freaking well drilled to prove it? There could be leasing going on, but most likely for other formations. Do you hear of ANYONE getting even the baseline standard 5k per acre lease anywhere near Plain Dealing? I think not, because the shale isn't there.

Dear Dog and General. I have been reading all of your posts lately. I do agree you have lots of knowledge in this field. However, I know just a little more than you do at this point. Sorry fellows. Maybe next time.

You very well may have more knowledge than me about this, but not TigerDog.

Hell, to be honest, I HOPE you ARE right. My family has several hundred acres "in the general vicinity" of Benton. I won't get into any more details than that. But it would benefit us greatly if the shale went that far north. I hope it does, but as of now the preponderance of the evidence shows that is does not.

I guess so. Lots of rumors out there. Most in the industry give little chance for the Haynesville shale north of Benton. Somebody could be wasting their time leasing up there as people do tend to buy lots of bad leases in times like this, or leasing for different formations, but after talking with CHK who knows more about this play than anybody else I'm convinced the Haynesville shale isn't going to produce up there. It would benefit me greatly if it did as I've got some holdings up in that neck of the woods, but I give it very little chance of happening.

I agree, but as you no evidence is sometimes skewed!
