U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Tuesday endorsed the congressional campaign of Nabilah Islam, giving her the support of one of the best-known liberal politicians in the country as she races for the Democratic nomination for the Gwinnett-based seat.
The New York Democrat, a rising star in her party who has fast become a polarizing national figure, said she was drawn to Islam’s campaign because her “working-class background provides her with unique insight into what Americans go through on a regular basis.”“Nabilah is not afraid to fight against the status quo,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who endorsed Islam through her Courage to Change PAC. “We need more voices like Nabilah’s in Congress.”
Islam, a first-time candidate, hopes the endorsement gives her bid for Georgia’s 7th District a jolt as she tries to energize voters in a messy June 9 primary that’s further complicated by the coronavirus pandemic. Her campaign hinges on mobilizing liberal residents, particularly younger voters, who are fed up with center-left policies.

Even Obama has said some great things about her.

We are so so stupid as a country when we elect these radicals into office. Problem with "well, we get what we deserve" notion is ludicrous b/c not all of us are retarded.

The problem is the gerrymandering of districts, ESPECIALLY along racial lines.
There are stupid elected officials of all stripes but House members in minority-majority districts tend to be the dumbest and most corrupt of them all as well as the ones least likely to lose their seat.
The only ones I can think of who lost rather than retiring are Cynthia McKinney and Dollar Bill Jefferson.

Agreed. Congressional districts should be comprised of whole counties.

That becomes a problem when there are more people than the apportionment number within a county.
CD-7 was also drawn as a GOP district in Forsyth and Gwinnett.

Shes not polarizing at all. Most people know shes an idiot and continually wonder why the media keeps putting her front and center as if she has a clue.

A district with an R+9 rating isn’t gonna vote for a Democrat, especially an AOC backed one.

It came really close in 2018. That being said, Bordeaux or Eaves will likely win the Dem primary on name recognition alone.

Does a Dem stand a chance in Gwinnett?

Bump for last night's primary, she came in third and narrowly missed the runoff by a few hundred votes (with 96% of precincts reporting).
