I put down about 60 squares of St. Augustine sod last Saturday. I have been watering twice per day since installation except yesterday I let Mother Nature take care of that for me. I thought we would get rain today but none so far and as I look at the forecast it seems that the chance of rain for later today has gone down. I know that you need to water the hell out of new sod so should I run my sprinkler today or just wait and see if it rains and run them tomorrow morning either way? I am located in Baton Rouge

I'm in Houston and we're getting drilled by rain so good chance it's going to make it's way to you.

Heavy water everyday on new sod, then back off to every other day, until fully rooted. It will be tacked to the ground after 10 days, and start to green up, but it is getting hot, so will need help through the summer months.

You can't really overwater it at this point when talking about rain and watering yourself.

Lift a piece up. If the dirt is wet, hold off. If it’s dry, water.

Water it everyday, regardless of forecast.

Every day for 2 weeks. Do not water at night. Ever. I would have propiconizole at the ready. New sod must be watered but new sod is also stressed. Stress+water+warm weather=leaf spot fungus.

Hi there, St. Augustine sod works well for lawns in warm areas and watering depends on the type of soil you have in your garden. I was reading this article How to Save Water in Your Garden it might help you in maintaining your beautiful garden grass.
