He's had a good two years thus far. Perhaps the issue is not his play, but your own subjective expectations. It's not like in year one he sat behind a couple of slouches (Mays and Waters - both experienced players). Yet, he still averaged 11/3/2 and was probably LSU's best "sixth man". This season after a rough first few games...which everyone unfairly held against him for the entire season...he turned into one of the better PG's on the BEST offense in the SEC. LSU didn't miss a beat offensively when EVERYONE thought they would because of the loss of Waters. Smart was a part of that.
He wasn't seen as a one-and-done guy when he signed with LSU (Wade confirmed that in the wiretap). And you can argue he's played unselfishly for the greater benefit of his team. He's probably the best player on the team at getting tough baskets when there is not much there. In fact, you might say he's been a little too unselfish at time. Particularly when you saw what he could do as a scorer vs a top 5 Tennessee team as a freshman. That was a great Tenn. team and they were helpless to stop him down the stretch. Without that performance, LSU likely doesn't win the SEC outright.
